It's not just a phase

Dr. Lisa Diamond, Ph.D., has conducted significant research that debunks the myth that bisexuality is just a phase. As a professor and researcher at the University of Utah, Dr. Diamond completed a 10-year longitudinal study of 79 women. Dr. Diamond’s study examined three possible versions of bisexuality: 1) that bisexuality is a temporary stage of denial or transition; 2) that bisexuality is a stable "3rd type" of sexual orientation; and 3) that bisexuality is characterized by a heightened capacity for sexual fluidity.

The results of the study demonstrated substantial support for sexual orientations other than gay and straight. But the concept of a "transitional stage", which holds that bisexuality is a transitional stage to gay/lesbian, did not have substantial support (Diamond, 2008, p.5).
