U.S. Transgender Survey

In 2022, the National Center for Transgender Equality surveyed more than 92,000 transgender people across the U.S. about their life experiences, by far the largest survey of transgender people in U.S. history.

The survey results show that transgender people continue to face harassment and discrimination in many aspects of their lives, including school, work, and interactions with healthcare providers.

In spite of these challenges, the overwhelming majority of transgender people report increased life satisfaction as compared to their lives before they transitioned--this at a time when states in many parts of the country are passing laws that limit access to transition-related health care.

With more than 600 questions and tens of thousands of respondents, the U.S. Transgender Survey offers a wealth of information about transgender people as they perceive their lives and identities, covering experiences with education, employment, family life, healthcare, housing, life satisfaction, and public accommodations.
