Standards of Care

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) periodically issues Standards of Care (SOC), establishing an international clinical protocol and guidelines for the treatment of transgender and gender-diverse youth and adults. The latest version, SOC-8, was released in September 2022 and provides recommendations for various aspects of gender affirming care, including social, hormonal and surgical transition.
Read these FAQs to learn more about the guidelines issued in SOC-8, including an emphasis on taking an individualized, evidence-based approach to care, moving away from rigid rules toward more flexible recommendations.
