(Adj.) Short for Female to Male. Refers to a transgender man, or a person who was assigned female at birth who identifies as a man. FTM was sometimes used as a notation in medical and psychiatric literature in the mid-late 20th century. While it is sometimes used today, FTM is considered inappropriate and offensive by some in the transgender community for implying that transgender men were originally women, as opposed to men who just happen to be transgender.
